The pianist and teacher Jo Dusseldorp, born in Heerlen on the 16th of august in
1928, began his piano and organ study in 1942 at the conservatory of Amsterdam,
where he was taught by Willem Smalt, Johan van den Boogert
and Cornelis Berkhout; organ by Jacon Bijster and Simon C. Jansen; conducting
by Anton van der Horst.
In 1948 he was distinguished with the 'Prix d'Excellence and the award from de society
for enhancing tonal art for the piano. His teaching career
started at the Heerlen school of music, but in 1958 he was appointed
as a teacher for the main course piano at the conservatory of Maastricht.

Jo Dusseldorp played with almost all dutch orchestras and gave countless
piano recitals with a music form Bach to Messiaen. He also accompanied
singers like Nan Merriman, Maria Stader, Erna Spoorenberg, Herman Schey,
Leo Ketelaars and Tom Brand. For a long time he led the choir of the Basilic in Meerssen.
Additionaly he was director of the 'Zuid-Nederlandse Opera' during its latest years
of existence.

In the period 1958 until 1989 Jo Dusseldorp had a distinguished piano class at the
conservatory of Maastricht in which countless young pianists had their musical
education. Not only was he an outstanding teacher but foremost he was an inspiring
musician with a personal view. Many students found their way into the world of music
under his guidance. Jo Dusseldorp died on the 28th of December 2006.
